Croatian man fined €700 for insulting police in Međimurje

A 27‑year‑old man from the Međimurje region was convicted by the Čakovć municipal court for verbally abusing and gesturing at police officers during a late‑night stop on 28 December 2025. He used profane language, displayed his middle finger, and was found to have a blood‑alcohol level of 2.84 ‰. After being detained, he claimed no memory of the incident and later apologized to the officers. The court rejected his defence, imposed a monetary penalty of €700 (the minimum under the law that allows €700–€4,000 or up to 30 days imprisonment), and ordered him to cover court costs.

The fine was reduced in part because the offender expressed remorse, and the time he spent in custody was credited against the penalty.
