Croatian Motorway Operator Fined €6,000 over Deer Crash

On 17 July 2026, the Rijeka Commercial Court ordered Hrvatske autoceste d.o.o. (HAC) to pay 5,951.95 euros in damages, plus interest and court costs, to Dragunja d.o.o. for vehicle damage caused by a deer collision on the A6 motorway near Čavle. The court found HAC had not taken sufficient measures to prevent wildlife from entering the roadway, rejecting HAC’s claim that the protective fence met technical standards.

The judgment also required HAC to cover 2,810.43 euros in procedural expenses. Wiener Insurance, acting as a co‑defendant for HAC, had previously contested the claim but was not able to avoid liability under the court’s findings.
