Croatian municipalities introduce student subsidies and increased scholarships

Local governments in Croatia are implementing new financial support measures for students and pupils for the 2026/2027 academic year.

In Sinj, Mayor Miro Bulj has announced that the city will fully subsidize monthly bus tickets for regular students traveling on the Sinj–Split route during the winter semester. The measure covers 100 percent of the cost for regular students residing in Sinj using Litre tours services. Additionally, the city will provide support for students in dormitories, non-regular students who are unemployed, and regular students studying in other Croatian cities through ticket reimbursements.

Meanwhile, the Municipality of Podstrana is increasing scholarship amounts for both pupils and students. Under the new plan led by Mayor Mijo Dropuljić, the highest monthly scholarship will rise to 200 euros. Increases apply across various categories, including excellence in deficit occupations, sports, social status, and support for students with disabilities. High-achieving secondary school students will also see increased monthly stipends.
