Croatian police record dozens of high‑speed and drunk‑driving offenses over weekend

Over the past weekend police forces in Croatia documented a surge of traffic violations and accidents. In the Lika‑Senj region, a 24‑year‑old Polish citizen riding a quad lost control near Željava and was seriously injured, while a separate crash involving a Croatian driver and a motorcyclist left another rider hospitalized.

In Split‑Dalmatia, authorities reported 672 offences, including 93 drivers caught driving under the influence. The highest recorded blood‑alcohol level was 3.64 ‰ in Trilj, and several drivers faced jail time for repeated offences.

The Primorsko‑Goranska police logged 270 violations, among them a Slovene driver caught travelling 205 km/h on the A7, far above the 100 km/h limit, and a 48‑year‑old Croatian with 2.40 ‰ alcohol. Penalties included fines of €660–€2,650 and bans on vehicle operation.

In Zagorje, 242 offences were recorded; a driver was clocked at 145 km/h in a 80 km/h zone and another was stopped with 2.28 ‰ alcohol. The Austrian highway police stopped a 22‑year‑old Czech driver who was travelling 219 km/h on the A5, seizing his vehicle for the severe speed breach.

Overall, the weekend saw numerous high‑speed pursuits, severe intoxication cases, and several serious injuries, prompting repeated calls from police for stricter road‑safety compliance.
