Croatian police suspend dozens of drivers for DUI, illegal motorcycles

On July 3–4, the Virovitica‑Podravska Police Department conducted intensified road checks and removed 21 drivers for suspected drinking‑and‑driving. Penalties included temporary licence suspension, fines ranging from €660 to €4,640 and penalty points. A 43‑year‑old driver of an Austrian‑registered car registered a blood‑alcohol level of 1.41 g/kg and was banned for two months with a €660 fine; he was caught again 34 minutes later with a 1.38 g/kg level, leading to arrest and a higher sanction of up to €4,640, a five‑month ban and ten points. The highest recorded BAC, 2.93 g/kg, was found in a 32‑year‑old cyclist, who was also fined €120.

In Bjelovar, police processed a 19‑year‑old who rode an unregistered motorcycle without a licence, ignored an order to stop, ran a red light and later illegally parked the bike in front of the police station. The court imposed fines of €260–€290, an eight‑point penalty and a six‑month ban on operating category A vehicles.
