Croatian universities host international marine research and scientific excellence programs

Academic institutions in Croatia are hosting significant international programs focused on marine research and scientific funding excellence.

The University of Zadar organized its fourth annual Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme, the UNIZD Marine Research Living Lab. The program involved 17 students from the Czech Republic, Lithuania, and Italy. Participants engaged in a combination of virtual learning and practical field and laboratory work, focusing on marine environment research, physical-chemical water analysis, and aquaculture basics. Activities took place at various locations including the Telašćica Nature Park and several aquaculture sites.

In Split, the University of Split and the Mediterranean Institute for Life Sciences (MedILS) hosted an international workshop titled ‘Building ERC – Competitive Research: Lessons from Croatia’. The event gathered approximately 100 scientists and experts from 26 countries. The workshop aimed to help researchers from Croatia, Southeast Europe, and the Western Balkans better understand and secure funding from the European Research Council (ERC), which prioritizes high-level scientific excellence and ambitious research ideas.
