Academic research and sustainability initiatives in Croatia

Overview

Croatian academic institutions have engaged in various international and collaborative programs focused on scientific research and sustainable development.

In mid-September 2026, the University of Zadar conducted its fourth annual Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme, the ‘UNIZD Marine Research Living Lab’, involving students from the Czech Republic, Lithuania, and Italy in marine environment research and aquaculture studies. Concurrently, the University of Split and the Mediterranean Institute for Life Sciences hosted a workshop for approximately 100 experts from 26 countries to provide guidance on securing European Research Council funding.

Additionally, the University of Dubrovnik, in collaboration with several other Croatian universities, hosted a Sustainability Festival. This event integrated science and art through lectures, exhibitions, and workshops addressing sustainable development goals, ranging from the sustainability of Glagolitic heritage to practical sessions on sustainable fishing and natural cosmetics.
