Crocodile captured near Chiquilá resort in Río Lagartos
Authorities have captured and relocated a crocodile near the Chiquilá resort in Río Lagartos to ensure the safety of tourists and local families. The intervention was prompted by concerns following a reported incident in the area where a crocodile allegedly attacked a dog.
The operation was a collaborative effort involving the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP), coordinated by biologist Cristóbal Cáceres, alongside Civil Protection and Municipal Police. During the process, specialists performed morphometric measurements, determined the animal's sex, and assigned it the identification folio 604.
The crocodile has been moved to a suitable habitat within the protected area to minimize human-wildlife conflict while ensuring the species' protection. Officials have advised visitors to maintain distance from wildlife and report any sightings to the appropriate authorities.
