Crocus and spring bulbs guide for seasonal gardening

Crocuses are early spring flowers belonging to the Iridaceae family, with species distributed across Europe, North Africa, Southeast Europe, Asia Minor, Central Asia, and Western China. Historically, ancient civilizations such as the Phoenicians, Egyptians, and Hebrews utilized the plant for medicinal purposes and the production of fragrances.

Gardening practices for spring bulbs suggest planting in autumn, specifically around October, in loose and well-drained soil. Crocuses, along with dwarf irises and grape hyacinths, are among the first to bloom, often appearing as early as February. Other spring-blooming varieties include daffodils, tulips, and lungwort, which can be combined to create diverse garden displays.
