Cross River State launches initiative to combat youth unemployment

The Cross River State Government has launched a new initiative to combat youth unemployment by implementing a framework focused on sustainable job creation, entrepreneurship, and skill development.

During a press briefing in Calabar, Commissioner for Youth Development Barr. Odum Ijom Ukam highlighted the challenges facing the youth population, including high unemployment rates, underemployment, digital exclusion, and a mismatch between current skills and market requirements. The government is calling for partnerships with the private sector, civil society, and development agencies to address these issues.

The announcement coincided with the unveiling of activities for the 2026 International Youth Day, themed ‘Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,’ which aims to promote social inclusion, innovation, and active participation in governance.
