Crotone awards Special Mention to Davide Ferrerio
The municipality of Crotone has awarded a Special Mention to Davide Ferrerio, a young man who has been in an irreversible coma for four years following a brutal assault. The recognition, part of the city’s civic merit regulations, was presented during a ceremony in the Council Chamber to honor the life and potential stolen from him.
Davide was attacked in August 2022 during a case of mistaken identity while on vacation. During the ceremony, Crotone Mayor Vincenzo Voce stated that the goal is to transform pain into memory, awareness, and responsibility. The local administration intends to use his story as a warning against violence, with plans to share his experience in schools to educate young people on the devastating consequences of senseless acts.
Davide’s family, including his mother Giusy Orlando and brother Alessandro, attended the event. The ceremony also included remarks from Monsignor Pino Caiazzo, who highlighted the profound impact the tragedy has had on the entire community.
