Crotone criminal ring dismantled in Operation Medusa

Italian authorities have dismantled a criminal organization dedicated to the exploitation of prostitution operating between Isola Capo Rizzuto and Crotone. The crackdown, known as Operation Medusa, was executed by the Carabinieri following a multi-month investigation that began last autumn.

Eight individuals are under investigation, consisting of seven foreign nationals and one Italian citizen. Of those, six have been subject to coercive measures: four are in custody and two are under house arrest, while two others remain at liberty. The charges include criminal conspiracy for the facilitation and exploitation of prostitution, aggravated sexual violence, and serious threats. One specific charge involves sexual violence against a minor.

Investigators identified Isola Capo Rizzuto as the group's operational base, though most prostitution activities occurred in Crotone. These activities took place in various locations, including streets, private homes, and a local hotel, which has been placed under preventive seizure. The investigation involved extensive surveillance, including tailing, observation, and video monitoring.
