Crotone security updates: New Guardia di Finanza commander and police crackdown

In Crotone, the Guardia di Finanza has undergone a leadership change as Colonel Paolo Benedetto Toma assumed command of the provincial unit. Toma succeeds Colonel Pierfrancesco Bertini, who has moved to lead the provincial command in Macerata. Toma, a graduate in Law and Economics, brings extensive experience from roles in Milan, Rome, and Naples to the strategic position focused on combating tax fraud and criminal infiltration in the economy.

Simultaneously, Crotone police have intensified local security operations. Under the direction of Questore Renato Panvino, a large-scale deployment involving various specialized units—including Anti-Crime, Immigration, DIGOS, and Traffic Police—was conducted in Crotone and Cirò Marina. The operation aimed to monitor individuals under house arrest and special surveillance. Results included the identification of 618 people, 279 vehicle checks, and 21 home detention inspections. The Anti-Crime division specifically focused on 17 individuals subject to liberty restrictions related to drug offenses and mafia-style criminal associations.
