Cruise ports in Iceland and Norway expand operations and infrastructure

The Port of Keflavik in Iceland has successfully completed its first turnaround operations, marking a milestone for the terminal. During the boreal summer, the port hosted eight calls, four of which involved passenger embarkation and disembarkation. Participating vessels included the Expedition from Adventure Canada, the Ocean Victory from Polar Latitudes Expeditions, and the Heritage Discoverer from Grands Espaces.

Located five kilometers from Keflavik International Airport, the port is positioning itself as a practical base for small and medium-sized cruise ships. The operations tested passenger logistics, including baggage handling, border control, and coordination with the airport. Linus Mattson of Nordic Port Group noted that these operations demonstrate the port's potential to serve as a new gateway for Icelandic cruise itineraries.

In Norway, the Port of Bodø and Visit Bodø have strengthened their cooperation to attract more cruise traffic through infrastructure investment and structured planning. Recent improvements include a new cruise portal, enhanced pier facilities with security and registration areas, and a larger gangway to accommodate a wider range of vessels. Additionally, a hydrogen plant is being constructed near the port to supply future ferries and ships.
