Cruz Azul Femenil pursues legal action against influencers for misogynistic attacks
Cruz Azul Femenil and Mexican authorities are responding to misogynistic and sexualized attacks directed at the team's players and sporting director, María Fernanda Pons. The insults were issued by content creators Santiago Domínguez, Mike Bedean, and Criss Ángel during an episode of the podcast ‘Pláticas del Mal’ following the team's 10-0 loss to América.
The podcast hosts made derogatory comments suggesting the players should be fired and work in adult entertainment venues like ‘table dances’ or on OnlyFans. In response, Cruz Azul announced it is considering civil and criminal legal actions against the individuals involved, citing violations of the General Law on Women's Access to a Life Free of Violence.
The club has also declared a permanent decision to sever all ties with the creators and any companies that sponsor their program. TeamMéxico.mx, a major sponsor, has already terminated its partnership with the podcast, stating that the creators' remarks do not align with their corporate values.
The Secretaría de las Mujeres and Liga MX Femenil have both issued statements condemning the digital violence and discrimination, emphasizing that while sporting criticism is acceptable, gender-based aggression and sexualization are inadmissible.
