Cruz Azul Femenil fires coach after historic 10-0 loss

Cruz Azul Femenil has dismissed head coach Israel Del Real following a historic 10-0 defeat against Club América in the second matchday of the Apertura 2026 Liga Femenil BBVA. The loss marks the worst defeat in the club's history since the championship's inception in 2017.

In response to the coaching change, the club announced that Guadalupe Worbis, a former Mexican national team player and the team's previous assistant coach, will take over as the new head coach.

Following the heavy loss, players including Lizbeth Ángeles, Daniela Calderón, and Melany Villa issued public apologies to the fans and the club via social media. Lizbeth Ángeles stated, “I want to ask for your forgiveness. To our fans, the club, our families, and everyone who accompanies us in every match. I know a ‘sorry’ does not change the score and does not erase the disappointment, but I want you to know that it hurts us as much as it hurts you.”
