Cryptocurrency market cap reaches $2.93 trillion amid declining search interest
The cryptocurrency market capitalization has reached approximately $2.93 trillion, marking a gain of roughly $372 billion over the last 19 days. Despite this increase in valuation and calls for a potential bull run, Google Trends data indicates that search interest for cryptocurrencies has fallen to its lowest level in 2024.
This divergence between capital flow and search interest suggests that retail investors may not be actively engaging with the market, which could potentially limit the capital required to drive prices higher in the short term. However, technical indicators such as the Altcoin Season Index, currently reading at 72, suggest the market is approaching an ‘altseason’ where altcoins may outperform Bitcoin.
In terms of market structure, the total market capitalization excluding the top 10 assets has broken out of a multi-year symmetrical triangle. After a period of compression, the market cap for these assets is trading around $247.53 billion, having successfully moved above a descending trendline near $200 billion. Maintaining levels above this threshold is seen as a signal for continued strength in the altcoin sector.
