Cryptocurrency prices decline amid ETF outflows and tech stock volatility

Major cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and Dogecoin, have experienced significant price declines. Bitcoin recently tested the $80,000 level, sitting approximately 6% below its recent high. Ethereum and other altcoins have fallen to their lowest price points since August.

Several factors are contributing to the market downturn. In the United States, spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw substantial outflows, including $635.6 million on a single Thursday. Ethereum also recorded a significant net withdrawal of approximately 169,770 ETH from centralized exchanges on October 23, marking its largest outflow in over four months.

Broader economic pressures include a rout in technology stocks driven by concerns over artificial intelligence spending, as well as rising oil prices amid Middle East tensions. Additionally, high levels of leverage contributed to the volatility, with hundreds of millions of dollars in long positions being liquidated within a 24-hour period.
