CS PowerTech Opens First U.S. HJT Solar Cell Plant in Indiana
CS PowerTech Inc., a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc., officially opened the first phase of its flagship photovoltaic (PV) cell manufacturing facility in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The plant, located at the River Ridge Commerce Center, is the first American PV cell facility designed to produce heterojunction (HJT) bifacial N‑type solar cells. At full capacity it is expected to generate more than 6 GWp of solar modules per year, create over 1,200 skilled manufacturing and engineering jobs, and represent nearly $1 billion in local investment.
The facility complements CS PowerTech’s module plant in Mesquite, Texas, forming a vertically integrated, domestic supply chain aimed at strengthening U.S. supply‑chain resilience, advancing energy security, and supporting grid reliability. Executives highlighted the plant’s role in scaling next‑generation solar technology, while Indiana Governor Mike Braun praised the investment for bolstering advanced manufacturing and good‑paying jobs in the state.
