CTA advocates for local business integration and food security in Mozambique

Álvaro Massingue, president of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), is advocating for increased integration of national companies into large-scale public projects. He emphasized that major contracts awarded to foreign entities should mandate subcontracting, technology transfer, and technical skill development to strengthen Mozambique’s industrial capacity.

Massingue also raised concerns regarding payment delays for public works, noting that late state payments jeopardize the financial sustainability and operational capacity of local contractors. Additionally, he called for greater private sector involvement in the housing market to meet the demand for affordable homes, particularly for young people.

On the social and economic front, Massingue met with Claire Conan, the World Food Programme (WFP) representative in Mozambique, to discuss food security. He framed nutrition not only as a humanitarian challenge but as an economic opportunity. The CTA aims to mobilize the private sector across the entire food value chain—from production and processing to fortification and distribution—to create jobs and wealth while ensuring affordable access to nutritious food.
