CTA supports Real Madrid's claims in Madrid derby refereeing dispute

The Spanish refereeing body, CTA, has partially supported Real Madrid’s criticisms regarding officiating during the Madrid derby against Atlético Madrid. Following a review of controversial incidents, the commission determined that Lee Kang-in should have received a direct red card for a tackle on Federico Valverde, noting that the VAR should have intervened.

However, the CTA did not fully validate Real Madrid's complaints. While the tackle by Cristian Romero on Jude Bellingham was deemed reckless, the commission ruled it did not warrant a direct red card. Additionally, the red card issued to Dean Huijsen was upheld as correct.

The controversy follows a heated match where Real Madrid players and manager José Mourinho expressed significant frustration. Bellingham personally confronted referee Miguel Ángel Ortiz Arias after the final whistle, demanding two red cards for Atlético players. Mourinho also utilized printed documentation during his post-match press conference to highlight the disputed fouls.
