Côte d’Ivoire advances cocoa sustainability and traceability
Côte d’Ivoire and Nicaragua are strengthening cooperation regarding the future of the cocoa industry. During the 142nd session of the International Coffee Organization in Geneva, Ivorian delegation leader Aly Touré met with Nicaraguan Ambassador Hazel Natalia Reyes Vallecillo to discuss producer income improvements and sector sustainability. Touré highlighted Nicaragua’s commitment to the 2026 International Cocoa Agreement.
In Côte d’Ivoire, the Conseil du Café-Cacao (CCC) is implementing a National Traceability System (SNT) for the 2026-2027 campaign. This system utilizes producer identification cards, electronic payment terminals, and sealed bags to track transactions at the farm level. The initiative aims to align Ivorian production with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) to ensure continued access to European markets and prevent illicit flows to neighboring countries.
