Senegal mobilizes health, water and infrastructure for 2026 Grand Magal

Ahead of the Grand Magal pilgrimage scheduled for early August 2026, Senegalese authorities are deploying extensive health, water and infrastructure measures. The Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene announced the mobilisation of 6,000 health agents, the operation of more than 180 health points, the deployment of around 40 ambulances and a budget of 71.5 million CFA for medicines and supplies. Parallel efforts focus on water provision: 50 water tankers will be sent to Touba, three new boreholes have been commissioned (bringing the total to 48), and repairs to the distribution network are underway, while reverse‑osmosis plants are temporarily halted to prioritise household supply. The government also unveiled a 200‑hectare industrial zone with a dry port, a technical school and a vocational centre, intended to become the country’s largest industrial area. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye made a 48‑hour visit to Touba, meeting the Khalife general, inspecting security preparations and laying the first stone of a private hospital in Ngabou. These coordinated actions aim to ensure the safety, health and logistical support for the millions of pilgrims expected at the Magal.
