Côte d’Ivoire Human Rights Council Backs Inclusive Electoral Reform

Ivory Coast’s National Council of Human Rights (CNDH) praised an inclusive dialogue launched on 22 June 2026 between the government, political parties, and civil‑society organisations on electoral governance. The council highlighted that the reform effort is grounded in the constitution and international human‑rights instruments and called on authorities to translate the dialogue’s conclusions into concrete changes that ensure free, transparent and equitable elections.

On 17 July 2026 the CNDH organised a workshop in Mankono, in the Béré region, bringing together traditional chiefs, religious leaders, women’s and youth representatives, civil‑society groups and security forces. Participants discussed respect for human rights during electoral processes and produced proposals to boost women’s and youth’s representation in upcoming municipal and regional elections, including possible quota mechanisms. The workshop identified illiteracy, financial constraints and fear of manipulation as key obstacles to broader participation.
