Côte d’Ivoire prepares new mental health legislation
The government of Côte d’Ivoire is developing a draft law specifically dedicated to mental health to improve the prevention, care, and protection of patients. The initiative aims to address existing challenges, including a lack of specialized facilities, social stigmatization, and an insufficient legal framework.
Following a preparatory workshop held in Cocody from October 15 to 17, 2026, organized by the Ministry of Health, Public Hygiene, and Universal Health Coverage, the new legal text seeks to clarify the responsibilities of various stakeholders in the sector. The government plans to present its actions regarding mental health prevention and management through a dedicated broadcast on its digital platforms.
