Côte d’Ivoire public health policy development
Overview
The government of Côte d’Ivoire is advancing several strategic frameworks to address diverse public health and social challenges.
In late October 2026, the Ministry of Health, Public Hygiene, and Universal Health Coverage initiated the development of a draft law dedicated to mental health. This legislation aims to improve patient protection, prevention, and care while addressing social stigmatization and the lack of specialized facilities. Following a preparatory workshop in Cocody, the government intends to clarify stakeholder responsibilities through this new legal framework.
By November 2026, the national policy focus expanded to include demographic shifts and climate change. Officials reviewed the draft National Population Policy 2026–2035, which seeks to manage projected population growth and human capital development. Concurrently, the Ministry of Health held a national dialogue to integrate health concerns, such as extreme heat and water insecurity, into the country’s position for the COP31 climate conference. This effort aims to establish a coordination mechanism to represent health priorities during international climate negotiations.
