Cuautla authorities identify suspect in Spanish student's murder

Authorities in Cuautla, Morelos, have identified a primary suspect in the killing of Claudia Tacoronte, a 20-year-old Spanish student. Tacoronte was in Mexico on a six-month academic exchange program with the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos.

Police investigations and surveillance footage from the Casa de la Cultura, where the attack occurred, led investigators to a local criminal known as Paco ‘el Trompas’. Video shows the suspect loitering near the entrance before fleeing on a stolen bicycle. The attack, which occurred on a Saturday evening, involved a knife and is believed to have been an attempted robbery.

The incident has highlighted ongoing concerns regarding violence and security in the region, specifically within the state of Morelos.
