Cuba commemorates 50 years of local People's Power organs

Cuba is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of its local People's Power organs, which were instituted nationwide on October 31, 1976. To mark the milestone, the National Assembly of People's Power held commemorative activities at the National Capitol in Havana.

High-ranking officials, including Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of the National Assembly and State Council, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, and Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Communist Party of Cuba, participated in discussions with provincial governors and municipal assembly presidents. The sessions focused on the “Mi Barrio por la Patria” movement, which aims to strengthen security, production, and community participation.

Local celebrations were held across the country, including in Manzanillo, Campechuela, and Matanzas. These events included floral offerings to national heroes, recognition of long-serving delegates and workers, and discussions on achieving municipal autonomy through ongoing economic and social transformations. Leaders emphasized the role of delegates as the direct link between institutions and the community, while also calling for increased vigilance to protect state resources during the current energy crisis.
