Cuba egg prices surge amid declining poultry production

In Cuba, the rising cost of eggs has become a significant burden for citizens, particularly those on fixed incomes. In the municipality of Manatí, Las Tunas, reports indicate that a single egg can cost up to 135 Cuban pesos. For a retiree receiving a monthly pension of 4,478 pesos, purchasing a carton of 30 eggs would consume approximately 90% of their total monthly income.

Similar price surges have been reported in other provinces, with some social media testimonials suggesting prices as high as 200 to 300 pesos per unit in Bayamo and Holguín. This inflation is attributed to a deep deterioration in domestic poultry production, which has seen a significant decline in daily output.
