Cuba expands sports science cooperation with Laos and Vietnam

Cuba is expanding its international sports education cooperation with Laos and Vietnam. Silvano Merced, rector of the Manuel Fajardo University of Physical Culture and Sport Sciences, has engaged in high-level discussions to support the development of athletic talent and scientific training in the region.

In Laos, officials expressed interest in utilizing Cuban expertise to transform their local center into a National Institute of Physical Education. The collaboration aims to focus on high-performance athlete development, coach training, and sports science research. Many Laotian sports professionals were previously trained in Cuba, utilizing Cuban methods of training and discipline.

Simultaneously, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Manuel Fajardo University and a Vietnamese higher education institution. This agreement covers academic and research activities, including pedagogical training, sports administration, and physical activity psychology. The partnership will facilitate the exchange of students and professors, as well as joint interdisciplinary research projects.
