Cuba-Southeast Asia bilateral cooperation

Cuba is engaging in various bilateral cooperation initiatives with Southeast Asian nations, specifically Vietnam and Laos.

In the legal sector, a Cuban delegation led by Olga Lidia Pérez Díaz, Director General of Notaries and Public Registries, met with Vietnamese officials to discuss a cooperation project between their respective justice ministries. The exchange aims to utilize Vietnamese expertise to support Cuba’s economic and social transformations, particularly in managing the transition toward decentralized, self-managed state enterprises and maintaining balance between public and private sectors.

In the field of sports science, Cuba is expanding its international education cooperation. In Laos, discussions are underway to utilize Cuban expertise to transform a local center into a National Institute of Physical Education, focusing on high-performance athlete development and coach training. Additionally, the Manuel Fajardo University of Physical Culture and Sport Sciences signed an agreement with a Vietnamese higher education institution to facilitate academic and research exchanges in areas such as sports administration and physical activity psychology.
