Cuba implements new Civil Registry Law to centralize citizen data

Cuba has implemented a new Civil Registry Law (Law 180), effective September 16, aimed at transforming the nation's administrative system. The legislation seeks to modernize how life events—such as births, marriages, and deaths—are recorded by transitioning toward an electronic registry and centralizing information.

A key feature of the reform is the creation of a personal folio for each citizen. This system links all registry acts to a single individual, addressing previous difficulties where information was scattered across 334 disconnected registry offices. This change is intended to simplify procedures and ensure data coherence throughout a person's life.

Lisset Castillo Soler, Director of Natural Persons Registry at the Ministry of Justice, noted that the law incorporates new figures related to the Family Code and responds to long-standing public demands for more efficient services.
