Alexander Pantoja Bertot found dead in Santiago de Cuba
Alexander Pantoja Bertot, a lineman for the Santiago de Cuba Electric Company, was found dead on Sunday in a rural area of the Contramaestre municipality. He had been missing since Thursday, September 10, while performing duties related to the electrical grid supplying the Gota Blanca reservoir.
A forestry brigade discovered his body in the El Palmar area. Reports indicate he was found sitting against a tree near a rock, showing signs of advanced decomposition but no visible marks of physical aggression. He was still in possession of his personal belongings and backpack.
A large-scale search operation involving the Ministry of the Interior, the National Police, canine units, drones with thermal imaging, and dozens of electrical workers had been underway. Authorities and forensic experts are currently investigating the circumstances of his death, and a medico-legal autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause.
The victim's sister, Yaima Bertot, has called for justice and clarity regarding the circumstances of his disappearance and death, stating that the family is now focused on identifying those accountable.
