Cuba launches job training program for unemployed youth

The Cuban Council of Ministers has introduced a new job training initiative designed to reintegrate young people into the workforce and educational systems. The program primarily targets individuals aged 18 to 30 who are neither employed nor enrolled in school.

Participants will undergo training courses lasting between one and six months, requiring a minimum of 20 hours of instruction per week. These courses are intended to address specific regional labor demands and may include digital skills, small business management, and various trades. To maintain eligibility for financial support, participants must attend at least 85% of classes and pass required evaluations.

Eligible participants will receive a monthly stipend equivalent to the current national minimum wage of 3,210 Cuban pesos. The program also allows for exceptions, such as including teenagers aged 15 to 17 in high-risk social situations or individuals aged 31 to 35 with family caregiving responsibilities. Priority will be given to vulnerable groups, including women with dependents, people with disabilities, and those living with HIV/AIDS.
