Cuba labor and vocational training initiatives
Overview
Cuba has introduced new vocational training programs targeting different sectors of the workforce. In Cienfuegos, a diploma program focused on green jobs and environmental sustainability was launched under the AGRO CRECE agreement. This initiative aims to support a transition within the agricultural, forestry, and tobacco sectors by training union representatives in environmental frameworks, occupational health, and risk prevention.
Additionally, the Cuban Council of Ministers introduced a national job training initiative specifically for unemployed youth aged 18 to 30. This program offers courses lasting one to six months to address regional labor demands, such as digital skills and small business management. Participants are eligible for a monthly stipend equal to the national minimum wage of 3,210 Cuban pesos, provided they meet attendance and evaluation requirements. The program also includes provisions for vulnerable groups and specific age exceptions for those in high-risk social situations or with caregiving responsibilities.
