Cuba men's volleyball team qualifies for Los Angeles 2028 Olympics
The Cuban men's national volleyball team has successfully qualified for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The achievement follows a decisive performance in Canada, where the team secured both an Olympic berth and a spot in the World Championship.
Head coach Jesús Cruz detailed the strategic approach used during the tournament, noting that players like Robertlandy Simón were rested during the NORCECA Championship semifinals to ensure they were at peak performance for the Olympic qualifiers. The team's path included a 3-0 victory over the Dominican Republic before facing Canada in a critical match.
Osvaldo Martínez, president of the Cuban Volleyball Federation, expressed satisfaction with the team's maturity, cohesion, and motivation. He noted that despite logistical challenges caused by domestic economic difficulties, the team's preparation included training camps in China and Japan. The federation plans to define a new strategy for the 2027-2028 period following this success.
