Cuba hosts international colloquium marking Fidel Castro's centenary

The First International Colloquium: Fidel, Legacy and Future opened in Havana to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Fidel Castro Ruz's birth. The event, held at the Palace of Conventions, has gathered approximately 1,500 delegates from 63 countries to discuss the historical leader's political and social influence.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel inaugurated the colloquium, emphasizing the relevance of Castro's thought in addressing modern global challenges. The program includes forums for youth, women, and intellectuals, alongside discussions on internationalist diplomacy and national sovereignty.

International support was highlighted through various diplomatic engagements. Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a message via representative Liu Haixing, reiterating China's support for the Cuban Revolution. Russian special envoy Mikhail Shvydkoy met with Díaz-Canel, conveying President Vladimir Putin's solidarity and noting Russia's respect for Castro's memory. Additionally, Namibian Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare met with the Cuban President, reaffirming Namibia's long-standing support for Cuba and calling for the lifting of the United States economic embargo.

Legislative leaders, including Esteban Lazo, used the forum to advocate for global peace and to denounce the impact of the U.S. blockade on the Cuban people.
