Cuba updates consular fees and citizenship renunciation costs
Cuba's Ministry of the Interior has clarified that the cost for obtaining a passport within the country remains unchanged at 2,500 pesos. This statement addresses social media rumors regarding potential price hikes for domestic applicants.
However, new consular fees will take effect on October 1 under Resolution 37/2026. These updated fees apply to services processed at Cuban consulates and diplomatic offices abroad. For individuals over 16, passports issued abroad will cost 200 dollars or euros, while those under 16 will pay 160 dollars or euros.
Additionally, the new consular tariff introduces specific fees for the renunciation of Cuban citizenship. Applicants must pay 500 dollars or euros to request the renunciation and an additional 500 dollars or euros to obtain it once approved. Under Law 172, renunciation is not automatic and requires applicants to be over 18, hold another citizenship, reside abroad, and have no outstanding debts or legal issues with the Cuban state.
