Cuba consular fee and citizenship renunciation updates

Overview

Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced updates to its Consular Tariff via Resolution No. 37/2026, set to take effect on October 1, 2026. The new regulations modify fees for various diplomatic services provided abroad, including passports, visas, legalizations, and certifications.

A significant component of the update is the establishment of a formal procedure for renouncing Cuban citizenship for residents in the United States and elsewhere. This process requires a total of 1,000 USD or EUR, split into a 500 USD or EUR initial application fee and a subsequent 500 USD or EUR fee upon approval. To qualify, applicants must be over 18, hold another citizenship, reside outside of Cuba, and have no outstanding debts or legal issues with the Cuban state.

Other adjusted costs include notary services, marriage ceremonies, and divorce proceedings. While consular fees for services abroad are increasing, the Ministry of the Interior clarified that the cost for obtaining a passport within Cuba remains unchanged at 2,500 pesos, addressing rumors regarding domestic price hikes.
