Cuban Ambassador and Chilean Communist Leader Call for Broad Support for Cuba

In Chile, Lautaro Carmona, president of the Communist Party of Chile, urged the creation of a wide‑ranging movement to support the Cuban Revolution, citing the intensified U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade and a petroleum embargo that are straining the island’s food and essential supplies. Carmona announced plans to travel to Havana in August to attend an international gathering of political parties and events marking the centenary of Fidel Castro’s birth.

A separate forum in Valparaíso, organized by Chile Popular and Estrella Roja Ediciones, featured Cuban ambassador Oscar Cornelio Oliva, historian Claudio Pérez, and publisher Patricio Lagos. Oliva outlined Cuba’s 176 approved measures grouped in 23 thematic axes aimed at consolidating socialism, boosting production and attracting investment, while rejecting any return to capitalism. He reiterated that the United States’ renewed blockade will not undermine Cuba’s independence and warned of possible military aggression.

The events were part of a broader series of solidarity actions across Chilean communes, emphasizing anti‑imperialism and support for Cuba amid the 73rd anniversary of the Moncada assault and the upcoming centenary of Castro’s birth.
