Latin American communist solidarity with Cuba

In late July 2026, Uruguay’s Communist Party marked the anniversary of the Moncada assault by installing a banner in Nueva Helvecia that declared “Cuba is not alone” and highlighted the island’s hardships under the U.S. embargo. A few days later, Chile’s Communist Party leader called for a broader movement to back the Cuban Revolution, citing the intensified U.S. economic and petroleum blockade that threatens Cuba’s food and essential supplies. He announced plans to travel to Havana for events marking the centenary of Fidel Castro’s birth. A parallel forum in Valparaíso featured the Cuban ambassador outlining Cuba’s extensive anti‑imperialism measures and warning against potential military aggression. Both events were framed as anti‑imperialism solidarity actions linked to the 73rd anniversary of the Moneda assault and upcoming centennial celebrations.
