Cuban Communist Party Headquarters in La Lisa Blocked Amid Night Protests Over Power and Water Shortages

On the night of 31 July and early 1 August 2026, police forces were deployed to the Communist Party of Cuba headquarters in the La Lisa district of Havana. Residents gathered to protest prolonged electricity outages and lack of water, closing Avenue 51 and setting fire to trash while sounding pots in the streets. A local resident reported that households had been receiving only about 20 minutes of electricity per day and had been without water for several days.

The La Lisa protests are part of a series of nightly demonstrations that have spread across Cuba throughout 2026, targeting Party and municipal government buildings. Earlier incidents include a March confrontation in Morón, Ciego de Ávila, where protesters entered the municipal Party office, removed furniture and propaganda, and burned them publicly. Similar actions occurred in June in San Miguel del Padrón, Regla, Marianao, El Cotorro, and attempts to reach the Party headquarters in Santiago de las Vegas and Boyeros were blocked by special forces.
