Cuban Council of State reviews rollout of approved reforms

On Wednesday, the Cuban Council of State met in an ordinary session to assess the implementation of the economic and social transformations approved by the National Assembly during its third extraordinary session on 18 June. The meeting was chaired by Council President Esteban Lazo Hernández and included President Miguel Díaz‑Canel Bermúdez and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, who reported that 171 proposals and evaluations from the parliamentary debate had been processed and that the government work system was being updated to focus on implementation.

The Council adopted several decree‑laws, five concerning agriculture and one amending the traffic‑safety code, and discussed a draft to repeal Law 183, which set a four‑year term for municipal delegates, to align with the constitutional five‑year term. Draft bills on the Labour Code, agricultural and forestry land, housing, central administration organization, and personal identity and domicile systems were also reviewed. The Council approved forwarding these drafts to the National Assembly for consideration in the seventh ordinary period beginning 29 July. It also endorsed the Foreign Ministry’s declaration rejecting a U.S. State Department report published on 20 July.
