Cuban regime pushes propaganda on Luis Manuel Otero's forced exit as host Michel Torres Corona taunts US sanctions

Cuban state media program "Con Filo" aired a segment on July 22 claiming artist and activist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara left Cuba voluntarily, contradicting his own statements that he was still detained when he arrived in Miami on July 18. Amnesty International classified his July 7 removal from a maximum‑security prison and subsequent secret house‑arrest as an enforced disappearance. The regime’s narrative downplayed the coercion and the transfer of over 4,000 paintings he took from prison.

Host Michel Torres Corona, a prominent propagandist, later posted a Facebook photo with recently US‑sanctioned official Gretza Sánchez Padrón, openly challenging Washington to add him to the sanctions list. He wore a CUPET shirt to reference earlier US sanctions on the state oil company and lambasted the United States with anti‑imperialist slogans. The United States has escalated sanctions against Cuban health officials and entities linked to foreign‑currency earnings.
