Cuban Solidarity Rally in Lanús, Argentina Decries U.S. Blockade
On 17 July 2026 the Casa de Amistad in Lanús, Buenos Aires Province, organised a solidarity event for Cuba under the banner “Estamos con Cuba.” The meeting was held at the Leonardo Flavio Cultural Center and opened with a screening of the Spanish documentary *Unblock Cuba* (2020).
Cuban consul Misleidys Reyes addressed the audience, calling the U.S. economic blockade a “human‑rights violation” and a “genocidal” policy. Mercedes Martínez, representing the Union of Cuban Residents in Argentina (URCA), read a statement condemning the blockade and urging its immediate end.
Organisers announced a fundraising campaign for 8 August to acquire solar‑energy equipment for the island, linking the event to broader initiatives by Cuban youth networks, such as the installation of a 20 kW photovoltaic system at Hospital Faustino Pérez in Matanzas.
