Cuenca council approves 2026 budget and launches family‑conciliation grant programme

The Cuenca City Council formally adopted its 2026 municipal budget, setting projected revenues at €71.9 million and expenditures at €71.6 million, with an investment capacity of €22 million. Council finance councillor Juan Manuel Martínez Melero highlighted a debt reduction to €15.57 million—down 75 % since 2019—without raising taxes, noting that the budget funds urban renewal, water infrastructure, sports facilities, heritage preservation, security, mobility, citizen participation and EU‑co‑financed projects.

The Provincial Diputación of Cuenca announced the new edition of the Plan Concilia 2026, allocating €100 000 in grants for municipalities (1,800‑10,000 inhabitants) to develop services that ease work‑family balance. Grants of up to €8 000 per municipality will support collective childcare, educational leisure for children under 14, and assistance for single‑parent families, victims of gender‑based violence, long‑term unemployed women, older women and caregivers of persons with disabilities. Deputy Eva García stressed that the programme aims to promote genuine gender equality and help families stay in the local labour market.
