Cuenca city council initiatives 2026

In late July 2026 the Cuenca City Council launched a short‑term intensive street‑cleaning operation in the San Antón neighbourhood and surrounding university area, deploying extra workers, sweepers, blowers and mechanical scrubbers to clean streets, manholes and public spaces. At the same time municipal services began deep cleaning and infrastructure work at the Cuenca fairgrounds to ready the Feria y Fiestas de San Julián festival scheduled for August.

A few hours later the council formally adopted its 2026 municipal budget, projecting €71.9 million in revenue and €71.6 million in spending while highlighting a 75 % reduction in municipal debt since 2019. The budget earmarks €22 million for urban renewal, water infrastructure, sports facilities, heritage preservation, security, mobility and EU‑co‑financed projects. In parallel, the Provincial Diputación of Cuenca announced the Plan Concilia 2026 grant programme, allocating €100 000 to municipalities of 1,800‑10,000 inhabitants to fund childcare, educational leisure, and support for single‑parent families, victims of gender‑based violence, long‑term unemployed women, older women and caregivers.
