Cuenca council rolls out intensive street cleaning and fairground preparation

The Cuenca City Council, through its concessionaire FCC, has launched an intensive cleaning campaign that will run from 31 July to 5 August in the San Antón neighbourhood and surrounding university area. The operation adds 12 extra workers and uses sweepers, blowers, a tanker truck, hoses and mechanical scrubbers to perform manual and mechanical sweeping, street washing, clearing of public spaces, cleaning of manholes and other tasks. Specific streets scheduled for cleaning include Camino Nohales, Tondos, Valdecabras, Belén, Hermanos Pérez del Moral, Hospitalillo, José Merino, Avenida de Los Alfares, San Lázaro, Villanueva de los Escuderos, Músico José López Calvo, Comuneros de Castilla, Presa Cerdán, Rodolfo Llopis, Santa Teresa Jornet, Pedro Almodóvar and CM Terminillo.

In parallel, municipal services have begun deep cleaning and clearing work at the Cuenca fairgrounds in preparation for the Feria y Fiestas de San Julián 2026. The work includes vegetation removal, surface cleaning and the undergrounding of electrical cables to improve safety and the venue’s appearance. The 2026 edition, set to run from 20 August to 30 August with a Children’s Day on 31 August, will host about 150 attractions, stalls and a youth tent, and will be part of a broader programme across city parks and cultural venues.
