Cuenca Provincial Council approves 50 new firefighter positions

The Provincial Council of Cuenca has approved an expansion of the 2026 Public Employment Offer, adding 50 new positions to the Provincial Fire Prevention and Extinction Service. This measure is part of a broader restructuring of provincial emergency services aimed at improving territorial coverage and reducing response times in rural areas.

The new personnel will staff the upcoming regional fire stations in Cañete and Priego, while also completing work shifts at the existing operational bases in Tarancón and Motilla del Palancar. The technical breakdown of the positions includes 36 firefighter-mechanic-drivers, 12 shift chief positions (six via open competition and six through internal promotion), and two station sergeant-chief positions.

Álvaro Martínez Chana, president of the Provincial Council, stated that the expansion fulfills a commitment to improve the provincial fire service by providing the necessary human resources to match recent infrastructure investments. The recruitment process will be conducted based on principles of equality, merit, and capacity.
