Cuenca provincial infrastructure and emergency service local

Overview

The Diputación de Cuenca has initiated several administrative and infrastructure measures to support provincial services. Initially, the council approved credit modifications to facilitate the opening of new firefighter stations in Cañete and Priego, alongside extending deadlines for the 2025-2026 Plan de Obras y Servicios to alleviate bureaucratic workloads for municipalities.

Following these infrastructure developments, the Provincial Council expanded its 2026 Public Employment Offer by approving 50 new positions for the Provincial Fire Prevention and Extinction Service. These roles, which include firefighter-mechanic-drivers and shift chiefs, are intended to staff the new stations in Cañete and Priego while supporting existing bases in Tarancón and Motilla del Palancar. President Álvaro Martínez Chana noted that this recruitment aims to provide the human resources necessary to match recent infrastructure investments and improve emergency response times in rural areas.

The technical breakdown of the 50 positions includes 36 firefighter-mechanic-drivers, 12 shift chief positions (split between open competition and internal promotion), and two station sergeant-chief positions. To advance this expansion, the Diputación has opened a ten-day application period specifically for the 36 mechanical firefighter driver positions within the Fire Prevention and Extinction, Civil Protection, and Emergency Service (SPEIN). Abel Fresneda, the Deputy of Personnel, stated that the initiative aims to provide better emergency response capabilities across the extensive and geographically dispersed province.
